Dr. Simon Chamakalayil

With a diverse educational background and extensive clinical experience, Dr. Chamakalayil brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the field of interventional psychiatry.

 

Dr. Chamakalayil embarked on his medical journey at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, where he completed an accelerated BS/MD program. Upon completion, Dr. Chamakalayil pursued his residency in General Psychiatry at Temple University Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident.

 

Driven by a passion for helping children and adolescents overcome their own struggles, Dr. Chamakalayil sought further specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He completed his fellowship training at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he served as Clinical Chief Fellow. After completing his training, Dr. Chamakalayil relocated to Central Florida, where he has been practicing for over two years.

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Chamakalayil has had the privilege of treating patients of all different socio-economic backgrounds and levels of disease complexity. These experiences have taught him to lead with a very individualized approach that is tailored to each of his patients.

 

As an interventional psychiatrist, Dr. Chamakalayil has dedicated himself to providing innovative treatments to his patients. His expertise in interventional approaches, such as Electro-Convulsive Therapy and psychiatrist led IV Ketamine therapy, has positively impacted the lives of numerous individuals struggling with treatment-resistant depression and other illnesses.

Dr. Joe Pullara

Dr. Pullara was born and raised in Lutz, FL. He completed his undergraduate degree in biological sciences at Florida State University. He then went on to attend medical school in St. Maarten at the American University of the Caribbean.

 

His clinical studies gave him experience in various healthcare settings across four US states as well as all the way to the United Kingdom. He completed his adult psychiatry residency at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, MO.

 

During residency, Dr. Pullara helped found a medical journal with his residency colleagues titled “The Journal of Psychedelic Psychiatry (ISSN: 2690-0912).”

 

Dr. Pullara was appointed deputy editor and still serves in this role while the journal continues to publish articles quarterly. 

 

After residency, Dr. Pullara returned to sunny Florida and passed the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification examination to become board-certified. He took a position at Lakeland Regional Hospital as an inpatient psychiatrist, where he later met Dr. Chamakalayil. Together they bonded over a passion for psychedelic psychiatry. 

 

Dr. Pullara’s passion for psychedelic psychiatry is unmatched in the community. He hopes that opening a psychiatrist led IV ketamine clinic in Wesley Chapel is just the beginning for patients struggling with major depression, anxiety, and PTSD to rewrite their story.

 

He has been very in tune with the ongoing research and FDA clinical trials with MDMA, psilocin, LSD, and 5-MeO-DMT. His goal is to help alleviate the suffering of those in the community he grew up in through cutting-edge psychedelic treatments as they become approved by the FDA.
